Precious Gem

"Anything" You said
"Just write anything"
So I just wrote you a poem
                      about how your eyes are more lovely
 than the two most precious gems;
and about how your fingernails are like the most perfect little shells;
about how there ought to be a statue of you,
              made of diamonds, on top of mount Everest
                       and about how I'd like to sleep
              under a quilt made of all your laundry.

  You read my poem, and sighed and said you'd started seeing
                           someone else.
